Here’s the true beginning for James Friesen’s life in Japan, at ‘Happy American’. This school is based on Jonathons school in Taiwan, with a dash of some of the less reputable schools in Kofu.
It’s odd for me making this strip set in such a comparatively idilic time in Japan’s history, while currently the country is in so much crisis.
