This is probably one of the most “real” conversations I’ve written for “Teach English…” and it’s definitely why I am making this comic. My experiences in Japan were more than just learning more about Japanese culture, but also learning more about the cultures of all my fellow gaijin. For better or for worse they were my peers, and we had to live with each other.

It was particularly eye opening to talk to people from countries much more economically disadvantaged than North America. Not just South Africa, but Peru, Chile, Brazil, and Korea. These conversations really opened my eyes to how lucky I am and how diverse a world we live in.

I’d say that Ken has a bit of chip on his shoulder, but I also think he makes some points that a lot of Westerners visiting Japan don’t often consider.

We’ll see how things go in the next few weeks, but I should warn you to expect a small 2 week break from Dec 26-Jan 2 while I celebrate the holidays. I should get some pin-ups online for you to enjoy for those days.
