May 14th, 2012Aaaaaand we’re back!
Thanks for your patience during my convention travels. I sold a lot of books and gave out a LOT of postcards, so hopefully some of you are new readers.
This chapter is based on Jonathons experiences finding a home, I was lucky enough to be placed in an apartment after my first month ( the one James is rejecting on this page actually). I did have to live out of hotel rooms for my first month but I never had to go apartment hunting.
cheers,
Jeff
Delays
May 7th, 2012Well, here I am. Awaiting my flight to Vancouver. Expect a new page next week, sorry guys.
Karaoke party!
April 30th, 2012Hey wait! That’s not a comic!
Ok you got me, I have failed to get ahead this week, so due to flying to Calgary Friday, and Toronto today I won’t be posting more story.
However, here is a pin-up I made while on the show floor in Calgary.
Calgary was a fun show with an overwhelming crowd attending. I don’t think I can justify the expense next year, so apologies to all the fine and wonderful folk I met. Especially my hostel mates from Edmonton, Jeff, Jeremy, Cliff and company!
Angela Melick of Wasted Talent was in top form at the show and sold out of her book 1! (which I helped produce).
The Weregeek crew were a pleasure as always, and they even treated me to a BBQ dinner on Sunday night.
Sam Logan and J J McCullough(sp?) were also a pleasure to speak with.
Saturday I got to hangout with some Vancouverites and drink delicious blackberry beer. Shout outs to Ed Brisson and Mike and Miriam of Jobnik.
Miriam ran the con while in her final term of pregnancy. She survived the con, and I wish her all the best.
I also got the spend time with the Guru Kitty gals, and Beth Wagner.
Vancouver truly has a great comic scene.
I also reconnected with some former students at the show. It was great to see them doing well, working in Graphic Design and using the skills I taught them. One student Jose Rojas is starting his own geek media company, which was very impressive.

April 23rd, 2012Man, what a crappy place. I’m glad I never had to go apartment shopping in Japan. Jonathon assures me the process is not fun in Taiwan. It’s been a fun weekend at Fan Expo, hopefully a few of you are new readers.
cheers,
Jeff

April 16th, 2012Oh Mayu, you just never know what she’ll do next. This is more based on Jonathons experiences but it’s sure been fun to draw. I’m excited to illustrate James’ apartment search.
I am hoping to keep the comic running on time while I am on tour, so here’s hoping.
If you are interested in meeting me and getting a signed comic, I’ll be at Vancouver Fan Expo, Calgary Comic Expo, and the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, in the coming month.
cheers,
Jeff

April 9th, 2012Apologies for the delay. The move and Easter break has conspired against me. I am going to be trying to work ahead today in preparation for my appearances at Vancouver Fan Expo, Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, and the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival.
cheers,
Jeff
Happy Easter!
April 8th, 2012There will be a comic up before days end Monday, the holidays have slowed me a little.

April 2nd, 2012Oh man, the old organizational gong show. I think all schools have this problem to some extent, but it’s definitely more pronounced in private schools I’ve noticed. American English School seems to be particularly badly run. A lot of this comes from Jonathon’s experience but it feels very much in line with things I’ve seen and heard.
Today was posted in advance, right now I’m probably moving into my new apartment and recovering from Emerald City Comicon. If you discovered this strip at the con, then I hope you’ve enjoyed what you read thus far.
Hopefully things will still be on track for next weeks update.
cheers,
Jeff

March 26th, 2012Page 90! The countdown to page 100 begins! I feel like I should have some kind of event for page 100. Watch this space for details.
I think this scene really sums up a lot of the dynamic between the company and the staff, as well as the professionalism of our meetings
I never had a twelve hour day, but I’d believe it if a company asked someone to work one. In general I found head office had some pretty unrealistic expectations of it’s staff. Though I find that phenomenon is not limited to the shores of Japan.
If you are in the Seattle area please visit me at the Cloudscape Booth where I’ll be joined by the sensational Jonathon Dalton, the co-creator of Teach English, and creator of many fine works including “Lords of Death and Life”.

March 19th, 2012Ken isn’t much of a team player I suspect. I never had a schedule this bad, but classes did seem to get moved just as arbitrarily.
I’m finally posting a bit early these days, hopefully I’ll have things scheduled and lined up for the weeks I’ll be moving and conventioning in Seattle.
If you are in the Seattle area and plan to attend Emerald City, please come by the Cloudscape booth at 1109!
cheers,
Jeff
